Computer issues after Hard Drive installation question?
February 25th, 2010
particlestorm@sbcglobal.net asked:
I just installed 2 Maxtor Hard Drives at about 750 GB each, and ever since, I’ve been randomly getting the Blue Screen of Death about some paging in page fault or whatever message it gives. Just wondering if anyone has run into this before or has any idea as to what it can be. Help would be appreciated!
Both are OneTouch III family external drives.

if they are external hard drives i would disconnect them and see if you have any problems if not then there is something when the computer start up the hard drives get scanned

Have you changed the virtual memory settings. Generally the windows caching for the HDD is having a problem. Need to play around with the virtual memory settings

Next time, put the whole error description in your question, it makes it a lot easier to diagnose, thank you.
From what it sound like, the virtual memory( page file) is being spread across the hard drives. Not that this all bad, but it definitely will be slower on an external drive. I would suggest manually putting the pagefile on the internal system drive.
How to do this?
Right click on My computer, select properties, then the Advanced Tab. Under performance options, select settings. If Windows is currently managing it, chose to manual settings. Select the internal drive ( c: I assume) and set the minimum and maximum amount to 1.5 times the amount of RAM example(512Mb x 1.5 = 768Mb)
Delete any amounts set for any of the other drives and reboot to activate the new settings. This should get rid of your paging problems.
