Camera getting a computer virus?

February 20th, 2010

hehehe asked:

My Kodak EasyShare 433 had been owned 6 months and it had a message saying ‘Card Must Be Re-formatted’. My friend was convinced it was from my infected computer. My computer had viruses. So is it at fault of my computer and its virus that my camera had to be reformatted?

*also, when i purchased a new memory card,it did the same thing AND when i reformatted the card, it did it again.
instead of putting the SD card into my computer i use a USB port and hook my camera to the computer

Through computer, the virus catches camera stick, mp3 and mp4 players. I had the bad experience with my mp4 player.

I’ve never heard of a camera catching a computer virus, however, i can’t say it’s not possible. :P . Although, it seems a little anticlimactic. I have had three digital cameras, and this has never happened to me lol. Well, it says that it has to be “re-formatted”, this happened to me when i put my old card into a new camera, and re-format basically means to configure to the new camera ( which mean deletion in some respect ). I’m not so convinced that it’s a computer virus on the camera, but hey, gas prices are rises, people are trading their explorers for sedans, anything’s possible ( Stranger things have happened). But, this still doesn’t seem usual to me, perhaps you should give kodak a call, or make a warranty claim .go to kodak’s website to find out more :

and just look around the site, and see what you may happen to find amung your search.

Check with the computer people on the computer venue. Since viruses attack software, it is doubtful that your camera is going to be affected … the memory card has no software on it and the camera runs using what is called “firmware”, not known for being attacked by computer viruses.

Cards do need to be formatted after you have copied all your images to your computer. This refreshes the card and writes new file folders and a new image index file, ready for your next use … you have to format the card using the format feature on your camera

my Nikon coolpix showed that sentence too. actually i don’t know why it could happen. but after i format the card, it still didn’t work. finally, i only use the internal memory with few capacity. and you know what, my usb cable also can’t work properly, so i can’t transfer photos from camera to my comp. poor me.
