Will restoring my computer to it’s factory default remove all viruses and spyware?

May 29th, 2010

Christy asked:

In the past week, I have been having spyware and pop-up problems on my computer. I want to just erase EVERYTHING and start from scratch. If I run the backup program for my computer and erase everything and restore it to its original condition, will this erase viruses and spyware?

Just be sure that you see ((( FORMAT, DELETE )) in the installation. Or eles it will just retain the virus on the drive

Its possible, however why don’t you first download and install and good spyware program. Boot your pc in safe mode and run the program to remove all the spyware? This may be a better option.

No, you have to get a program like Ghostsurf to clean it all out.

    Yes.

The only exception is if your manufacturer’s recovery discs are themselves infected. This is quite unusual, but not unheard of.

No now you should understand that each and every file on your Hard disk is affected by Virus .
You can buy latest Anti Virus software and Scan all the files for any Infected files .

System restore will not do that. You have to do a complete re-install of the operating software. Or you could install Anti virus, spyware, adware, and a registry cleaner. Even if you do re-install of the OS, it’s still a real good idea to find and install the aforementioned products. Hint; the pay versions always work much better than any of the free stuff.

Try Malwarebytes to remove the rogueware

If that doesnt solve it,using your recovery disc to reload the operating system (if it does formatting first) will get rid of everything on the drive, yes.

Never say yes to “scareware” if you get stuck on one of those pages do ctrl alt del and shut down IE.

I have AVG 8 full version and it has saved me from threats just moments ago clicking on spammers links right here in this forum.THREAT DETECTED pops up and I bug out.
